I have a deep issue with opening up our borders allowing foreigners to take up Australian jobs! We have a climate where people such as myself - a highly educated CPA qualified Accounting professional - who has never struggled to be employed, but in the last 10 years of public policy allowing > 100,000 foreigners diluting the accounting talent pool which inevitably leads to lower wages and locals out of work. I myself - who does not qualify for centrelink handouts, and therefore not counted in the 5.6% unemployment rate - have struggled to find full time work for almost 2 years. I have taken government advice and started my own business but again do not qualify for any startup business government assistance packages and therefore have spent 10's of thousands on marketing my business to little effect. I still have to put food on the table. I have had to sell the items of value I acquired while working in order to survive and feed my family. I am now divorced and a statistic that our government does not value or care about. Instead we have a policy of wide scope 457 visa (which we all know is a back door into permanent residency and lower wages) while 50% of our taxes are paid to welfare recipients who could be re-trained and put into jobs rather than importing workers. I support Australian's for Australian jobs. Especially in jobs like management and human resource roles who are the true decision makers in commercial industry. By putting foreigners into management and HR which are decision making positions, we are supporting the natural tendency of those foreign individuals to make decisions which benefits foreigners and penalises local Australians. In a competitive world which business will hire an Australian when the conditions exist that foreigners are willing to work for half the wage out of desperation that has been created by this system? I have lost faith in my government doing the right thing by me - an Australian born and raised citizen.
