1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Yes

What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.

My opinion on this topic is that this would be a big step backwards for Australia’s recruitment industry. I find most of the recruitment professionals I’ve met over the last two years, forward-thinking, collaborative and versatile, pushing each other to raise the bar in our industry.

Also, recruitment is about people and we’re looking at an increasingly diverse world of work. Recruiters with different backgrounds have different experiences, different views and different ways of approaching problems and therefore will always be able to add a different perspective to a hiring process.

Recruiting is not a job everyone can do – or better said, it’s not a job everyone can do well. There is little room for bad recruitment practice as competition is strong and overseas recruiters who want to stay here, often need to go the extra mile – in my experience at least.

2. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)?

No

3. Do you consider that occupations need to be removed from the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSSL) or the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)?

No
