1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Yes

What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.

712211 Driller

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.

DDH1 prefers to employ local labour wherever possible, with support from a strong training sector that upskills new people entering the industry. However due to current demand and shortages of local labour it is necessary to have access to overseas candidates . This allows the industry to cover the fluctuations in the cyclical ups and downs that characterise the drilling industry. At present it is impossible to meet the demand of exploration requirements due to limited staffing resources.
