1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to or removed from the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?
- Added to MLTSSL
-
What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?
Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.
- 133411 Manufacturer
- 323215 Textile or Clothing and Footwear Mechanic
-
Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.
- 1. The apprenticeships in TCF Mechanic has been withdrawn from the training system in Queensland by the Training Authority due to a) lack of numbers and b) registered training provider.
2. Lack of interested workers and not seen as an attractive industry.
3. High level skills required.
4. Small number of textile companies in Queensland.
5. Need to search outside Queensland and Australia for skilled TCF Mechanics.
6. Australian labour supply and skills development systems not providing skilled labour.
7. Shortage has existed for more than 12 years.
8. Skilled immigration required to maintain Australia's skills in advance textile manufacturing.
1. Food manufacturers are the largest employers in manufacturing in most SA4 areas in Queensland. These positions are mainly held by migrants and not sought after by local workers if available.
2.
Therefore
Move both occupations from short term to medium-long term list as there are no local or national solutions
