1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Yes

What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.

223112 Recruitment Consultant

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.

Recruitment Consultants play an integral part in the creation and fruition of jobs in Australia. I believe that employing internationals in these positions is advantageous as they can provide a robust comparison of recruitment needs and processes in other countries and subsequently implement improvements to the Australian job market.

International Recruitment Consultants are generally individuals who have travelled, pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones on numerous occasions and have ultimately decided to live and work in a country away from their home and loved ones. These experiences often lead individuals to gain superior interpersonal skills which lend themselves perfectly to the Recruitment Consultant position wherein it is important to quickly build mutually beneficial professional relationships with both employers and candidates. Through the circumstances of migration, individuals often build resilience which is also essential in the recruitment industry as there are many factors which can alter the job market and Recruitment Consultants need to be able to adapt and react appropriately.

Allowing internationals to bring their skills and expertise to Australia also develops a multicultural society. Multicultural societies are often reported as more cohesive and harmonious in comparison to populations which are less diverse. Additionally, international migrants often have loved ones to visit which increases the lucrative tourism economy in Australia.

By including the Recruitment Consultant occupation on the MLTSSL, experienced international recruitment professionals are attracted to live and work in Australia and consequently secure work for Australian Citizens which positively affects employment rates. International Recruitment Consultants are usually more willing to live and work in regional areas compared to Australian Citizens. This promotes and creates employment opportunities for Australian Citizens who are living in remote areas.
