1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to or removed from the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Added to MLTSSL

What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.

599612 Insurance Loss Adjuster

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.

I have been recruiting Loss Adjustors in Australia since 1982.

There is a tremendous shortage of skilled technical Loss Adjustors in Australia and those that are here are an aging population and as and when they retire the industry is unable to replace them unless they can be sourced from outside of Australia.

Given the number of cyclones, earthquakes, fire and flood events Australia has it is critical the Insurance industry can hire these people to assist in times of disaster.

Whilst there are younger trainees coming through there are not enough of them and it takes at least 7-10 years for them to gain enough experience to be able to operate on their own with major losses or even high volume where doing the job quickly and accurately is so important to those who have lost their homes and businesses and even in a very few cases lives have been lost

At present there are over 20 vacancies for experienced Loss Adjustors with 10 years plus experience in Australia that I am aware of ands I am sure the numbers would be higher if a National survey of all Loss Adjusting businesses was conducted
