1. Do you consider that occupations need to be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Yes

What occupations should be added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)?

Please also include occupations that you propose should be moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL.

223112 Recruitment Consultant

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being added to the MLTSSL.

Gen 5 Group started in 2004 and recruits primarily Engineers. In this time we have continually searched for Australians to either join the group as an experienced Recruitment Consultant or any Australians who demonstrate the desire to become a Recruitment Consultant. For both categories we find it extremely difficult to find this type of person. In our time we have trained many Australians to become Recruitment Consultants who now work for us or have started their own companies and are now employers in their own right. However there has never been enough Australians applying for positions that can fill the vacancies we have. We employ numerous Recruitment to Recruitment agencies and will gladly pay a fee for them to identify these individuals, however they are simply not there. This means we have to sponsor over seas people which adds considerable cost along with the additional time they take to understand the Australian market. My estimation would be at least an additional $50,000 to employ an overseas person. Consequently for you to infer that there are Australians ready to undertake training or even Australians that are experienced is ludicrous. To remove Recruitment Consultant from the list would significantly curtail the growth of our business. Plus for the Australians that we do employ it will significantly reduce their capacity to become experienced Recruitment Consultants as they will have no one to work under who can manage and train them on a daily basis. This is one of the key functions we task our overseas Recruitment Consultants with. This is because we recognise that we want Australians to do the job. For no other reason than it saves us money. Let alone the fact that Australians like to buy off Australians so therefore they can become more successful. In summary please contact me and I can very easily demonstrate the pressures our business and industry is under due to the fact that Australians are not available to train or hire if experienced.

No

3. Do you consider that occupations need to be removed from the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSSL) or the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)?

Yes

What occupations should be removed from the MLTSSL or the STSOL?

Please outline the evidence or data that would support these occupations being removed from the MLTSSL or STSOL.

Remove Recruitment Consultant from the short term list and put it on the long term ASAP. This will allow significant growth in our industry. Reduce our customers contacting Singapore and New Zealand to complete work that we cannot undertake due to lack of staff. Ultimately if will increase government revenue through individuals in Australia paying increased PAYG tax along with overseas Recruitment Consultants imparting their knowledge onto Australians.
